Joseph Manch papers, 1922-1988.

Series I. and II. contain administrative files and publications of Buffalo public schools, Manch⁰́₉s correspondence, his speeches and writings, and related organizational files during his superintendence. The significant documents in the collection are press clippings that feature educational, financial, political and social problems of Buffalo public schools that Manch collected from the Buffalo Evening News and Buffalo Courier-Express during his superintendence. There are a large number of articles about the integration of public schools in Buffalo, as well as building construction, school budgeting, teachers⁰́₉ salary raises, and public comments during the period covered. Also, Manch⁰́₉s schedule, recognitions, and ideas about public education from 1939-1982 are included in the clippings. In addition, the collection includes applications of campers and counselors, brochures, daily logs, newsletters, and operation records of Camp Arrowhead, a Jewish summer camp that Manch supervised between 1939 and 1957. Individual camp logs and campers⁰́₉ health records are sampled or restricted due to the amount of paper to preserve and to protect individuals⁰́₉ privacy. Series III. Speeches/Writings and Photographic Shows, documents notebooks, manuscripts of Manch⁰́₉s published and unpublished poetry and short stories, and correspondence with guests of his photographic shows. His professional speech scripts addressed to the Buffalo Board of Education, commencement addresses, paper delivered at professional conferences and his published articles and drafts of his educational writings are also contained in the series. Orders to purchase his photographs from exhibits and fundraisers are sampled due to the amount of paper to preserve.
